Red and White Store
This building was constructed in 1904 as a general store that also held Coleman's first post office with a meeting hall for the Knights of Pythias upstairs. In the late 1930s the building was purchased by Bill Gate and Herb Sherrett, whose renovations included removal of the top floor before opening a Red and White store.
Red and White stores were independently owned and operated meat and grocery stores common across Canada and the United States between about 1930 and 1970. They relied on a central wholesaler headquartered in Chicago but also frequently sold local meats and produce. Jack Owen purchased the store in 1946 and ran Owen's Red and White Store until 1968 when his son Leslie converted it to Leslie Owen Clothing.
