He was born Leonard Slye, but it was as Roy Rogers that he became known as "King of the Cowboys". He started out in show business as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers, but in 1938 he became Republic Records's answer to Gene Autry. He appeared in more than 150 movies and television programs becoming a hero to the youth of the 1940’s and 1950’s. He married his co-star, Dale Evans and they became the most famous couple in western movies and serials.
