A monument honoring three firefighters who died in the line of duty is located in the park south of the City Hall at 24 South Street.

On March 30, 1960 a gasoline tank exploded at a service station on the corner of South and Lincoln streets. As a result, three firefights were killed. In addition two gas station employees were also killed in the blast.

A monument honoring the three firefighters was placed by the Kiwanis Club and the City of Auburn. A bronze plaque attached to a granite stone in front of a line of maple trees is inscribed:
