Fred's signature dish is The Potato, which is a baked potato covered and smothered with brisket, sausage, beans, onions, peppers, sour cream, butter, cheese, and barbecue sauce (see photo in the gallery). Even if you're dining in, they serve it in a to-go container to hold it all together. That one should get you through the afternoon, maybe a Rolaid later, but there are other options. Their pork ribs get good reviews, and they have brisket (chopped/sliced), pulled pork, ham, sausage, and turkey. One can order by the plate or by the pound, and sandwiches (and po' boys) are also an option, and there are quite a few selections for your sides, like cole slaw, cabbage, potato salad, mac and cheese, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, rice, and beans. The Potato is probably your pig-out option, but feel free to go back and order as much as you like by the pound. Those going on the cheap can get a Sheriff's Favorite sandwich for $4.45.
They're a fairly cozy little joint, with a rustic atmosphere with the ubiquitous wagon wheels. Service is cafeteria style, although sometimes, they'll bring your food to you after you pay (The Potato can take some time to prepare, for example.). Soft drinks and iced tea are available, and for dessert, you can get a root beer float, banana pudding, cobbler, or a slice of pie.
Of note here also is the hospitality. Leon (not Fred), his wife, Queenie, and their daughter will always say hello to you and ask how things are going. More often than not, they'll catch you as you leave to make certain you enjoyed your meal.
