Which makes the Souris area a natural for opening and running a Lighthouse B&B, Lodge, Hotel or Motel. One of several decommissioned lighthouses on PEI in which one may bed down for a day or a week, this one is about three miles west and south of the town of Souris proper.
This motel hasn't received great reviews recently on
Trip Advisor, but the reviews for the lighthouse itself have been OK, so if you relish the experience of sleeping in a real lighthouse with a great view give it a try.
One may rent the three storey lighthouse and attached light keeper's quarters for $700 per week. They also offer a three-day Honeymoon special.
The operator of the lighthouse describes the accommodations thus:
"
3 km from Souris and les Îles-de-la-Madeleine ferry. Quiet setting. Panoramic view overlooking the ocean. Lighthouse Keeper's suite in three-storey lighthouse with whirlpool, TV. Overnight and housekeeping motel units. Sandy beach with excellent swimming, 400 m. Continental breakfast included with overnight and Lighthouse Keeper's Suite. Licensed restaurants, 2 km. Bilingual services. Reservations advisable.".
As for the lighthouse itself, we have been unable to find any information on it. With an attached light keeper's quarters and standing on an obviously old concrete foundation, it does appear to be authentic, though.
