At the Santiago-de-Chile-Platz in Stuttgart, you can find several Chile-related objects. This is a bust of Gabriela Mistral, a Chilean poet and diplomat, who received the Nobel laureate in Literature in 1945. She was the first Latin-American to win this prize. She received the prize „for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world“ (as cited by wikipedia).

In her younger years, she worked as a teacher, while later, she worked mainly abroad (Europe, North America) as a journalist or as a lecturer at conferences and universities. From 1932 on, she was consul for Chile. She is still honored in Chile nowadays: her portrait can be found on the 5000 Chilean peso bank note, which therefore has the nickname gabrielita.

A translation of the poem on the bust:
Life is gold
and grain-sweet
The hate is short
The love
boundless

The bust was a gift by the Chilean embassy and the foundry Fundición El Progreso Chile to the city of Stuttgart in the year 2014.

The inscription on the monument is in German only (the above listing contains a summary of it) and originally reads as follows:
LEBEN IST GOLD
UND KORNSÜSS
DER HASS KURZ
DIE LIEBE
GRENZENLOS
