The Shipbuilder was sculpted in 2004 by Michael Curtis on Halloween. He donated it to the city of Alexandria. The sculpture is about 8 feet tall on a pink granite base, facing towards downtown Alexandria. The back of the sculpture is facing Washington, D.C. to the Potomac River. The sculpture depicts a shipbuilder from the early days of Alexandria, when it was still part of Washington DC and the federal government used the land here as a place to build warships.
