Park Forest Rail Fan Park, technically located in Matteson, at the corner of Homan Avenue and North Street (just across from one of Park Forest’s Metra lots in Holder Park) is the site of one of the country’s largest rail intersections, where the north/south Canadian National main line intersects the east/west rail arc formerly owned by the EJ&E Railway. Visitors to the park can view the train action from a 35 foot-high platform overlooking the rail tracks and intersection.

The caboose sits at the bottom of a large hill that begins a walkway leading to the observation platform. Several informational signs provide more information on the caboose, local rail travel and the prairies.
