Cotton Boll Motel & its iconic Neon sign stand alongside the Mother Road in Canute. The sign is said to be among the most-photographed along Route 66. Located in 'Canute' another town bypassed by the Interstate, with dire consequences, & now a virtual Ghost Town.
You never know, with the resurgence of Route 66 & its Neon's, someone may decide to refurbish the sign & the Motel. Or will it be sold of to developers like so many other Iconic relics along Route 66.
From USA Today:
"The Cotton Boll Motel's sign in Canute, Okla., is among the most-photographed along Route 66. The motel's owner, Pat Webb, checked into the 16-room building in the late 1990s and never left, turning a part of the place into his personal residence." Text Source: (

"The Cotton Boll Motel now stands derelict, and hairy grass and weeds have strangled the flowers that once grew beneath the angular, red sign. The mechanical horses trotted to the dump years ago, and the red neon lights have fallen into a tangled bramble of glass tubes, while the sparkly, flashing rate sign has been boarded up and covered with hokey campaign ads."
