Chamberi, Madrid, Spain - Railroad Museums on Waymarking.com

The Metro Station Chamberí is out of order since 22 May 1966, but open to the publik as a museum (please check the website for the opening hours). Chamberí was part of the first Metro Line of Madrid, opened in 1919. The 8 stations were initially: Cuatro Caminos, Ríos Rosas, Martínez Campos (glorieta de Iglesia), Chamberí, Glorieta de Bilbao, Hospicio (Tribunal), Red de San Luis (Gran Vía) and Puerta del Sol.

Due to increased transportation capacity requirements the length of the trains were increased to approx 90 meter. The length of the other underground stations were increased too, but, this was not possible in Chamberí. Thus, this station was closed. You can not board the metro lines anymore, which still use the tracks runing through this underground station.

Nowadays the station is a museum. They have a film (in spanish only) and the old installations. Even the advertising displays from 1920 are still preserved in this "ghost station".
