The Kingston-Edmonds run of the Washington State Ferries has been in operation since 1951. Kingston serves the Upper Kitsap Peninsula and northern Olympic Peninsula with frequent ferry connections to Metro Seattle.

The Kingston terminal of the Washington State Ferries is a busy terminal with two ferries plying the waters of Puget Sound making the the half-hour crossing. Presently ferry in use takes aboard about 2500 passengers and 202 vehicles and with connections at Edmonds to the commuter train to Seattle this is a busy route.
