This railway bridge carries the Dundee to Aberdeen line across the South Esk just at the point that the river flows down from Montrose Basin. The bridge was designed by W R Galbraith and built between 1881 and 1883, replacing a short lived bridge by Sir Thomas Bouch in 1880. The bridge carries a single track line 475 yards over the water. It has 14 bowed iron lattice girders on iron columns filled with concrete, supported on pairs of circular riveted iron piers. It is viewed easily from the nearby road bridge.
Bridge Type: Girder

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
