Accompanying a shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe, this sign reads:
"Our Lady of Guadalupe
The Mother of God blessed the Americas
in a very special way on December 12, 1531,
when she appeared to an Aztec Indian,
Juan Diego. The apparition took place on
Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. Our Lady
requested a chapel be built there in Her
honor and gave Juan a consoling message
for mankind and a cluster of beautiful roses
as a sign for the Bishop of Mexico City.
But her greatest gift was Her image on the
indian's telma or cloak. The miraculous
picture is preserved to this day in the
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico."
