Due to its dominance as a hub for business and travel in Canada's Arctic, Whitehorse is a very cosmopolitan city. It has recreational and civic facilities that would be the envy of others that are 10 times its size.
From this building, the City operates its administration and Council. The City is governed by an elected Council consisting of one Mayor and six Councillors. Council is responsible for setting the policy direction of the municipal government, which is then carried out operationally by City administration.
