Located inside the Smithsonian Castle, this 1954 sculpture is entitled "Orpheus" and depicts the Greek prophet lying on his back, knees bent, and playing a lyre. The work is made of bronze on a marble base and the sculptor is Paul Manship.

For the Greeks, Orpheus was a founder and prophet of the so-called "Orphic" mysteries. Some ancient Greek sources note Orpheus' Thracian origins."
