MW0822 - USC&GS 'QUAKING ASP AZ MK' Azimuth Mark - Modoc County, CA - Azimuth Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey Azimuth Mark from 1948 in good condition. This AZ mark appears on a topography map as 'BM 4904'. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for station recovery with the exception that the sign for the road leading to Bird Spring is gone. You will also have to pass through a wire gate not far from Clear Lake Reservoir Rd. My posted coordinates should place you pretty close to this mark.

THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD AZIMUTH MARK DISK THAT HAS BEEN WELDED TO THE TOP OF A 3 FOOT LENGTH OF 1 INCH IRON PIPE. IT IS 32 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE TRACK ROAD LEADING TO BIRD SPRING, 45 FEET WEST OF A TRIANGULAR BLAZED JUNIPER TREE AND IS ON THE WEST SLOPE OF A LOW RIDGE. THE DISK IS STAMPED QUAKING ASP 1948 AND PROJECTS 5 INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. TO REACH THE MARK FROM THE STATION GO EAST OFF THE HILL FOR ABOUT 0.5 MILE TO THE ROAD. TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW THE ROAD FOR 0.8 MILE TO A FORK AND A SIGN BIRD SPRING. TURN LEFT AS PER SIGN BIRD SPRING AND GO 0.45 MILE TO THE MARK ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED.

Azimuth Condition: Perfect Your Directions: Per the NGS datasheet, there is a fork in Clear Lake Reservoir Rd .8 miles east of the hill leading up to QUAKING ASP series. Take the left road a short distance to a wire gate. Proceed through gate for .45 miles to the AZ mark on the right, very visible by its cap on a metal pipe.
