I remember living in northern NJ as a child, near the Erie Lackawanna railroad tracks, thinking I invented the trick of placing pennies on the tracks and picking them up after a passing train had smashed them flat. Well, others apparently knew my trick and share this memory. Jim and Lorna Ross actually named their ice cream parlor after it! To tie the whole theme together, they have both a penny smasher and a Soo Line caboose located at the shop. We visited while traveling through the upper midwest and enjoyed the real Wisconsin ice cream, hearing their story and exploring the caboose.
