Bovbjerg Fyr var fra starten udstyret med et linseapparat, der i 1904 blev udskiftet til en glødenetsbrænder. Samtidig blev lyssignalet ændret så det nu blinkede.
Bovbjerg fyr har sin karakteristiske røde farve for at undgå at det forveksles med de mange hvide kirker ved kysten.
Fyret blev grundigt restaureret i 1975. Siden 2007 har en gruppe af frivillige afholdt forskellige aktiviteter i fyret. Blandt andet kunstudstillinger og café.

Bovbjerg lighthouse had a Fresnel Lens from the beginning, which was replaced in 1904 with a mantle. The light was also changed into a flashing light.
The lighthouse has it's characteristic red colour to prevent it being confused with the many white churches on the west coast.
The lighthouse went through a major restoration in 1975.
Since 2006 a group of volunteers runs several events in the lighthouse like art exhibition and a café
