De nieuwe loopbrug tussen het helikopterplatform en de nieuwbouw van het Erasmus MC maakt het mogelijk dat patiënten snel op de Spoed Eisende Hulp terechtkomen.

Traumakamer
Stel, een helikopter met een zwaargewond verkeersslachtoffer landt op het heliplatform. Dankzij de loopbrug is er sinds kort een directe verbinding met het ziekenhuis. Met een druk op de knop ontgrendelt de meldkamer alle deuren op de route naar de Spoedeisende hulp (SEH). Tweeënhalve minuut later ligt de patiënt op de traumakamer.

Wachtend
Vroeger ging dat anders. Patiënten werden vanuit de helikopter met de lift naar de parkeergarage gebracht. Daar werden ze in een wachtende ambulance gezet waarmee ze via de Westzeedijk naar de andere kant van het Erasmus MC werden gebracht en van daaruit naar de SEH. Dr. Dennis den Hartog, hoofd Traumacentrum Zuid West Nederland: “Het overhevelen van deze zwaargewonde patiënten en het tijdverlies brachten uiteraard risico’s met zich mee. Maar die risico’s zijn nu voorgoed verleden tijd.”

Transport
Jaarlijks worden in het Erasmus MC 450 polytrauma patiënten behandeld. Dat zijn mensen met ernstig letsel aan meerdere organen. Daarvan worden er tien tot vijftien via de lucht binnengebracht. Den Hartog: “Vaak wordt nog gekozen voor de ambulance in plaats van een helikopter vanwege het transport na de landing.”

Risico's
Doordat de patiënt nu zonder extra risico’s of tijdverlies naar de SEH kan worden gebracht, verwacht Den Hartog komend jaar twee tot drie keer zoveel polytrauma patiënten met helitransport.

Transport
Every year at Erasmus MC 450 polytrauma patients treated. Those are people with severe injuries to multiple organs. There are ten to fifteen through the air. DD: "is often still chosen for the ambulance instead of a helicopter due to transport after landing."

Risks
Because the patient now without additional risks or loss of time can be brought to the emergency room, expecting Dr. Dennis den Hartog next year two to three times as much polytrauma patients with helitransport.
