Hegyestu Geological Site is located near Monoszlo in Veszprem County in Hungary. It is part of Bakony–Balaton Geopark and Balaton Uplands National Park. It is located at the at the eastern margin of Kali Basin. The main feature of the location represent stunning columnar basalt wall that on some parts reach 50 meters in height.
This geological formation was created by volcano that was active 8 million years ago. During the rapid cooling of basaltic lava in the crater of volcano, these remarkable basalt columnar jointing was formed. This geological formation is regarded as unique in Hungary and as rare in entire Europe.
