 A 586 m d'altitude, le village de Sombernon est bâti sur une arête rocheuse, sa rue unique a la particularité d'être la ligne de partage des eaux, d'un côte l'eau va à la Méditerranée et de l'autre côté à la Manche.

La Brenne est une rivière abondante de l'est de la France, qui coule dans le département de la Côte-d'Or en Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. C'est un affluent de l'Armançon, donc un sous-affluent de la Seine par l'Armançon puis par l'Yonne.

La Brenne prend sa source à Sombernon, à une trentaine de kilomètres à l'ouest de la ville de Dijon, en Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Elle se jette dans l'Armançon entre Montbard et Buffon, en Côte-d'Or, à plusieurs dizaines de kilomètres du confluent de l'Armançon avec l'Yonne (à Migennes).

Elle alimente le réservoir de Grosbois-en-Montagne, grande retenue d'eau artificielle servant d'une part à alimenter en eau le canal de Bourgogne et d'autre part à l'alimentation en eau potable. Elle passe à proximité du site d'Alésia et de celui de l'Abbaye de Fontenay.

Brenne is a plentiful river from the east of France, which flows into the department of the Côte-d'Or in Bourgogne - Franche-Comté. It is a tributary of Armançon, thus a sub-tributary of the Seine by Armançon then by Yonne.

Brenne rises at Sombernon, in around thirty kilometers on the West of the city of Dijon, in Bourgogne - Franche-Comté. It throws itself into Armançon between Montbard and Buffon, in Côte-d'Or, in dozens of kilometers of the confluence of Armançon with the Yonne (to Migennes).

It feeds the reservoir of Grosbois-en-Montagne, big restraint of artificial water serving on one hand to feed with water the channel of Burgundy and on the other hand in the drinkable water supply. She passes near the site and near that of Alésia's the Abbey of Fontenay.
