"Karl Domanig, also known as Carl Domanig (* 3 April 1851 in Sterzing), was a writer and numismatist.
Domanig attended schools in Brixen and Meran. In Innsbruck and Rome he studied numismatics and German philology, and in 1876 he obtained the doctorate. After studying, he worked as an author of poems, tales, novels and dramas, but initially unsuccessfully. He was a teacher and taught about twenty children from the Habsburg emperor's house in art and literary history. As a numismatist, he was appointed Custos-Adjunkt in 1884 and later director of the k.k. Coin and Antique Cabinets of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Later he became acquainted with his plays Der Tyroler Freiheitskampf, Die liebe Not und Der Gutsverkauf, in which he denounced the decay of the Christian and moral order in the village.
He belonged to the Gralbund of Richard Kralik. Domanig was a member of the Catholic student associations Merania Meran and the AV Austria Innsbruck and Welfia Klosterneuburg in the ÖCV.
From 1934 to 1947 the former Rosa-Luxemburg-alley was renamed Vienna-Ottakring in Domaniggasse. In 1976 the name of the Domaniggasse in Vienna-favorites after the poet and his son, the director of the International Schlafwagengesellschaft, Gottfried Domanig (1895-1964). In Innsbruck's Amras district, the Domanigweg was named after him.
His son was the surgeon Erwin Domanig, Austrian statthalter of the knight's order from the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. "
