The Sarrasine tower is built on top of a rocky projection. It closes the Castle of Baux to the south and thus protects access through the gate of the "Auro". It played a major role in the defense of the place.

"Les Baux-de-Provence has a spectacular position in the Alpilles mountains, set atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. Its name refers to its site: in Provençal, a bauç is a rocky spur. It is one of the most beautiful villages in France and has over 1.5 million visitors per year." (

The top of the Sarrasine Tower offers a beautiful view over Les Baux-de-Provence, the castle of Baux, the Alpilles mountains and the Entreconque valley.
Access to the tower is a bit perilous, so do be careful.
