The plaque says, "These four houses constitute the remaining portion of a colonnade of nine originally named La Grange Terrace after the country seat of the Marquis de Lafayette. When constructed in 1831 by Seth Geer, this was considered the finest row of private dwellings in the city. Its residents have included John Jacob Astor and Washington Irving."
