"The Christian Brothers' School opened here in Barrack Street in 1929. This was the fifth school opened by the Brothers who had come to Belfast on the invitation of Bishop of Down and Connor, Patrick Dorrian, in 1866. For more than one hundred years there was a focus on the teaching of Irish in the Christian Brothers' schools. Many of the city's well-known Irish speakers learned the language in the Barrack Street school."
