The Langness Sea Arch has been formed by coastal erosion (wave action). The relatively soft Manx Group rocks formed around 480 million years ago have been eroded to leave the natural arch of the relatively harder gravel deposited in the Carboniferous period around 350 million years ago.
Eventually the arch will collapse and leave a stack feature unconnected to the main cliff.
