There is a very interesting geode found here that is not like any I have seen in Oklahoma before. They are full of white, neon green, and grey Calcite minerals.

Lake thunderbird has some very interesting rocks. Clay balls that contain some very amazing formations of Calcite. Because of the Iron levels in the soil it changes the colors. There are some other elements that do the same thing and the end result is great. I have been talking to some of my teaches at OU so figure out what elements have caused this change.
Thunderbird geodes or eggs, can be found on the peninsula by the dam. Turning off of OK 9 on to thunderbird Dam Rd there is parking along the lake. From there it is a hike to the southwest along the shore. It will curve around to the north and the Thunderbird Eggs can be found on the point. If water is low they will be visible and easily retrieved, if water is high wading into the water will be required. They are anywhere between 2 to 6 inches wide. Some broken ones may be seen on the ground in the area.
To open them you will need a hammer, chisel, and safety glasses, or some people break them on the ground. Please be aware of your surroundings and don’t hurt bystanders.
There is a lb. limit on what you can take out of the park. I believe it is 10 lb. or it was last time I talked to a ranger
