The Crown, is a traditional street corner public house situated on the corner of Chapel Street and Glebe Street in Butt Lane.
The hanging pub sign fixed to the building on a bracket shows a picture of a crown. This was a popular name for a pub probably because it indicated loyalty to the monarch. The name appeared in profusion once Charles II had been restored to the throne.
The Crown is one of the most common pub names according to pubs galore. (

This pub is also known as the 'Corner Pin'and was awarded Pub Of The Month November 2013 by the Potteries CAMRA Branch.
An article written in the POTTERS BAR (Newsletter of the Potteries Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, No.155 Autumn 2013) describes the pub as follows:-
'The Crown, known affectionately as the "Corner Pin", is a traditional street corner local of a type which is rapidly disappearing from our towns and cities. Its regulars are from the neighbourhood, but visitors are welcome. It has been a feature of Butt Lane life for many years, and for the past two years has been in the capable hands of Ken and Jane Parker. Jane has worked behind the bar for seventeen years, and had an ambition to manage it, which she has now achieved. They are working hard to improve the Crown, as the recently decorated exterior shows.' (
