Text of Plaque:
Dedicated to two of Nevada’s brawniest pioneers: James T. Fennimore, who, on a wild night in 1859, christened this town Virginia - and to John “Snowshoe” Thompson who carried the mails on homemade skis during the crescent years of the Comstock Lode.
