This history plaque was installed as part of the restoration of McKay Park following the completion of the adjacent Bend Whitewater Park.

Shevlin-Hixon Millsite
On this 240 acre site in August of 1915, construction began on one of the largest pine sawmills in the U.S. It was owned and operated by the Shevlin-Hixon Company and, with its associated logging operations, employed over 600 people. Production ceased in December of 1950 and the assets were wold to Brooks-Scanlon, Inc.
This commemorative marker has been placed just upstream from the location of the Shevlin-Hixon office building.
