This weathervane depicts the Royal & Ancient logo of Saint Andrew and the saltire cross, along with the words, Royal and Ancient. It is situated on the roof of the famous building that sits behind the first tee on the Old Course.

The building's foundation stone was laid on July 13th 1853 and was completed on June 22nd 1854. The building has been extended frequently since and is twice the height since first built. The weathervane is most visible from the south.
