The athletic program for Northern Oklahoma College has a Maverick as its team name. A maverick is an unbranded calf, cow, or steer, especially an unbranded calf that is separated from its mother. This sculpture is not titled, but appears to be a representation of the NOC team maverick.
The sculpture stands on a large iron pillar, which tapers slightly. On the side of the pillar is a flat iron face of an animal, with long horns. Atop the pillar is a life-sized calf made of iron strapping.
