This war memorial stands at the N. Pottenger Street entrance to the high school athletic fields.

The Shawnee High School athletic fields are located north and east of the school building. At the entrance on the east side, on N. Pottenger Street, this tall war memorial stands as a sentry, reminding the students of those who have served and died for our country. It stands outside a baseball field: "Memorial Park - Ed Skelton Field"
This is a white marble pillar approximately 12 or more feet high. Engraved on the pillar are the words:
For the
inspiration and benefit
of the youth
of Pottawatomie County
Oklahoma

This monument
and ball park
are dedicated to the
memory of the gallant
soldiers, sailors and Marines
from this county
who lost their lives
in the service of
their country
during World Wars I and II
and Korea
and Vietnam.
Above these words is a bronze plaque listing approximately 250 names of those military lives lost; and above that, the seal of the State of Oklahoma.
