The selection of hiking trails is vast. The Sisi Roundabout Trail, Schmitten’s shortest hiking trail, is dedicated to Austria’s former empress and is only about 2 km long. It takes you around the Schmitten summit, starts and finishes at the Elisabeth Chapel. You complete it in just half-an-hour, and can then relax over coffee and cakes.
On the High Altitude Promenade to the Sonnkogel, you need a bit more time. It promises a lot: along an easy-going hiking path are demo boards, wooden statues and fresh mountain herbs to be discovered. A detour to the Salersbachköpfl is also rewarding, it offers fabulous roundabout views of Pinzgau’s grassy mountains, the Steinberge of Leogang, the Steinerne Meer (“sea of stone”), Wilder Kaiser (“wild emperor”), Grossglockner and lots more. It’s an eye-opener!
