This Historic Marker is alongside Valeene Road just on the northern edge of the town of Marengo. Its placed for a historic private high school that opened in this location in 1869 by John Johnson. It was opened to allow students a higher education that just elementary school.
As per the sign, the school was open from 1869 until Johnson retired in 1902 and the building was removed from the location in 1910.
