Meikleour Beech Hedge was planted in the autumn of 1745, laid out by Jean Mercer of Meikleour and her husband, Robert Murray Nairne to denote a boundary.

The hedge has been recorded as the tallest in the world since 1966. It is 580 yards long, with an average height of 100 feet. The northern end is 120 feet high and the southern end is 80 feet high.

It is cut and measured every ten years, utilising a hydraulic platform and hand-held equipment. It takes four men six weeks to carry out this task.

The hedge is hard by the western side of the A93 road, four miles south of Blairgowrie, and ten miles north of Perth. There is a lay-by at the southern end, and an information sign at the northern end.

Type of documentation of superlative status: Information sign at the northern end of the hedge

Location of coordinates: On the road verge next to the sign
