Unter dem Motto "Gießen und Genießen" stehen in der Fußgängerzone "Neuer Markt" in Meckenheim insgesamt 5 Kästen verteilt, die Obstbäume, Gemüse und Kräuter beherbergen. Das Projekt ist eine Zusammenarbeit lokaler Obstbauern und der Stadt Meckenheim. Das Prinzip: Nach der Bepflanzung durch die Stadt sind die Bürger für die Pflege verantwortlich. Dafür dürfen sich alle an den Früchten bedienen wenn sie reif sind.

Die Stadt Meckenheim erhofft sich von dem Projekt neben einem Attraktivitätsgewinn des Einkaufszentrums Werbung für die Bedeutung Meckenheims als Apfelstadt und Deutschlands drittgrößtes Obstanbaugebiet.

Under the motto of "Water and Enjoy" (German: "Gießen und Genießen"), a total of 5 boxes planted with fruit trees, vegetables and herbs are distributed in the pedestrian zone "Neuer Markt" in Meckenheim. The project is a collaboration of local fruit farmers and the city of Meckenheim. The principle: After the planting by the city, the citizens are responsible for the care of the plants. In return, everyone can take the fruits when they are ripe.

The city of Meckenheim hopes that the project will not only increase the attractiveness of the shopping center, but also promotes the importance of Meckenheim as an apple town and Germany's third largest fruit growing area.
