Bei der Sturmflut von 1962 kam es zu einer Flutkatastrophe an der deutschen Nordseeküste. An den Unterläufen von Elbe und Weser sowie ihren damals noch ungesicherten Nebenflüssen wurden hohe, vorher nicht beobachtete Wasserstände erreicht.
