Boone Homestead
George Luther Boone, great grandson of Daniel Boone, came to Oregon by wagon train in 1846 and took up a claim in southern Oregon. He left to mine for gold in California in 1849. In 1852 he returned and married Mourning Ann Young. In the 1870s the family homesteaded property on Yaquina Bay.
Other Boone descendants also have lived in the area.
The land where the Boones built their home was surrounded by water at very high tides so it sometimes was referred to as Boone Island.
