Engraved pavers purchased by citizens of Port Bolivar and the Houston-Galveston metroplex in support of the creation of the Jane Long Memorial in 2012.
The memorial was dedicated by the Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation and The Jane Long Society in tribute to Jane Herbert Wilkinson Long -- a.k.a the “Mother of Texas”. It commemorates her struggles on the Bolivar peninsula in the brutal winter of 1821, and pays tribute to the spirit of the people of Bolivar in their struggle to return after the devastation of Hurricane Ike.
The pavers are laid in between two stone benches, who themselves were placed about a year later (in 2013) by local Eagle Scouts.
