Zambujeira do Mar é uma antiga freguesia portuguesa do concelho de Odemira, com 42,96 km² de área e 912 habitantes (2011). A sua densidade populacional era 21,2 hab/km². Foi elevada a freguesia em 30 de Junho de 1989 (pertencia antes à freguesia de São Teotónio), sendo a mais pequena do concelho e fica no Alentejo .

Com a Reorganização Administrativa Territorial (RAT), em 29 de setembro de 2013 a Freguesia de Zambujeira do Mar foi extinta e passou de novo a fazer parte do território da Freguesia de São Teotónio.

A sua costa, integrada no Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, é debruada a falésias e pequenas praias que, fora das época alta turística, são paraísos usados por poucos. Destacam-se, além da praia central da Zambujeira, as praias dos Alteirinhos, Nossa Senhora, Arquinha e Tonel.

A principal actividade é o turismo, mas são também relevantes a agricultura, a pecuária e a pesca, albergando um dos quatro portos do concelho (chamado de Entrada da Barca). Nos últimos anos, tem crescido bastante o turismo rural, com um punhado de empreendimentos de qualidade em redor da aldeia.

Em Agosto realizam-se os três maiores eventos do calendário Zambujeirense: na 1.ª semana do mês, o Festival do Sudoeste, o maior dos festivais de música de Verão do país, sediado a alguns quilómetros da aldeia; a 15 de Agosto, as festas religiosas e procissão dedicadas à padroeira local, Nossa Senhora do Mar; a 29 de Agosto, a feira anual.

A colectividade da terra, a Associação Cultural e Recreativa Zambujeirense, realiza diversas actividades lúdicas, culturais e desportivas.

Praias existentes

Zambujeira do Mar
Uma das mais conhecidas e frequentadas praias da região e um dos seus principais cartões-de-visita. Protegida por altas falésias, fica na foz de um curso de água, junto à localidade. Na extremidade sul onde foi erigida uma ermida, formam-se perigosas correntes que podem arrastar os mais desprevenidos. Bastante popular para o surf e bodyboard.

Praia dos Alteirinhos
Este areal protegido por uma alta falésia costumava ser uma boa alternativa ao habitual rebuliço da praia da Zambujeira do Mar, mas nos últimos anos são cada vez mais os banhistas que a procuram. Durante a maré baixa pode apreciar-se toda a sua originalidade: as pequenas enseadas alargam-se, formando uma enorme praia polvilhada por rochas, piscinas e lagoas, cheias de lapas, mexilhões e camarões. O rochedo que se prolonga pelo mar (o Lajão) é um dos pesqueiros favoritos da região. Acesso: seguir a estrada de terra a sul da praia da Zambujeira do Mar. No topo da falésia, junto aos pinheiros, virar no sentido da costa. Descer depois os degraus de madeira existentes.

Praia Nossa Senhora
Na saída norte da Zambujeira, nas dunas em frente às últimas casas, uma escadaria na falésia conduz até esta praia, com mais cascalho que areia.

Praia do Tonel
Enseada encravada numa alta falésia, a descida para a praia efectua-se por um trilho a pique. A parede rochosa e a caminhada até ao areal são impressionantes - a praia fica no sopé, esmagada pelos blocos de pedra. Do topo da arriba, junto ao cabo do Penduradoiro, tem-se uma das mais belas paisagens da região. Acesso: seguir o caminho de terra que se inicia na estrada municipal entre o Cabo Sardão e a Zambujeira do Mar, junto ao monte da Herdade do Touril

Zambujeira do Mar is an old Portuguese parish in the municipality of Odemira, with 42.96 km ² of area and 912 inhabitants (2011). Its population density was 21.2 inhabitants / km². The parish was elevated on June 30, 1989 (it belonged before to the parish of São Teotónio), being the smallest of the county and is in the Alentejo.

With the Territorial Administrative Reorganization (RAT), on September 29, 2013 the Parish of Zambujeira do Mar was extinguished and again became part of the territory of the Parish of São Teotónio.

Its coast, integrated in the Natural Park of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, is surrounded by cliffs and small beaches that, outside the high tourist season, are paradises used by few. Apart from the central beach of Zambujeira, the beaches of Alteirinhos, Nossa Senhora, Arquinha and Tonel stand out.

The main activity is tourism, but agriculture, livestock and fishing are also important, housing one of the four ports of the county (called the "Entrada da Barca"). In recent years, rural tourism has grown, with a handful of quality developments around the village.

In August, the three biggest events of the Zambujeirense calendar take place: on the first week of the month, the Southwest Festival, the largest of the country's summer music festivals, located a few kilometers from the village; on August 15, the religious festivities and procession dedicated to the local patroness, Our Lady of the Sea; on August 29, the annual fair.

The collectivity of the land, the Zambujeirense Cultural and Recreational Association, carries out various recreational, cultural and sports activities.

Existing beaches

Zambujeira do Mar
One of the most popular and frequented beaches in the region and one of its main business cards. Protected by high cliffs, it is at the mouth of a water course, next to the locality. At the south end where a hermitage has been erected, dangerous currents are formed which can draw the most unprepared. Quite popular for surfing and bodyboarding.

Alteirinhos Beach
This beach protected by a high cliff used to be a good alternative to the usual hustle and bustle of Zambujeira do Mar beach, but in recent years more and more bathers are looking for it. During the low tide you can appreciate all its originality: the small coves widen, forming a huge beach sprinkled by rocks, pools and ponds, full of limpets, mussels and shrimps. The rock that extends through the sea (the Lajão) is one of the region's favorite fishing grounds. Access: Follow the dirt road south of Zambujeira do Mar beach. At the top of the cliff, next to the pine trees, turn towards the coast. Then descend the existing wooden steps.

Beach Our Lady
At the north exit of Zambujeira, in the dunes in front of the last houses, a staircase on the cliff leads to this beach, with more gravel than sand.

Tonel Beach
Enseada encased in a high cliff, the descent to the beach is made by a railing. The rocky wall and the walk to the beach are stunning - the beach is at the foot, crushed by the stone blocks. From the top of the top, near the cable of the Pendurer, you have one of the most beautiful landscapes of the region. Access: follow the dirt road that begins on the municipal road between Cabo Sardão and Zambujeira do Mar, near the hill of the Herdade do Touril
