In Norwood,along a runway of the Norwood Memorial Airport, is a weather station making official weather observations.

Norwood Airport is located off Neponset Street. From I-95, take the westbound exit for Neponset Street (toward Norwood), then drive to the intersection with Access Road (there is a sign pointing the way), then drive on this way to the parking lot on the right.

The weather instruments are out into the airport runway. The waymark is at the viewing area with benches, tables and a memorial. The tower is to the right (facing the runway).

The instruments are actually located near the junction of the two runways and between a runway and an access road. There is a pole with white and orange-red coloring in the group. Other instruments and boxes are visible.

My view was from the tarmac itself, by a plane that I was getting a ride in, and, when I landed, I went by it.

Norwood Airport is regularly referenced in official National Weather Service and Television listings/displays. Norwood is about four miles from another major weather station: Great Blue Hill. Despite their closeness, their observations can vary significantly. Great Blue Hill is on the summit of Great Blue Hill, 635 ft high, while Norwood Airport is located at the base of the Neponset River Valley. Under some conditions, especially at night and in the morning, this station can report temperatures lower than other nearby stations.
