The Kennecott Copper Corportation’s K. C. C. No. 12 caboose now sits in front of the relocated Cherry Creek Depot at the White Pine Public Museum.

This 4-wheel type caboose was built by the Mt. Vernon Car Co. and was purchased new along with 2 others by the Nevada Northern Railway in June 1907 for $936.00 each. These cabooses were 15’ 2” long and 9’ 0” wide with wooden body and underframe. No. 12’s underframe was later replaced with a steel frame. In May 1920 the Nevada Northern Railway sold much of it’s rolling stock related to the mining side of the operation to Nevada Consolidated Copper Company which in 1933 was acquired by the Kennecott Copper Corporation. This series of cabooses were sold for use as mountain cabins upon their retirement. Gene Stoddard at the Central Ely Museum (now the White Pine Public Museum) managed to reacquire No. 12 in 1965 or 1966.
