We LOVED the Dixie Pig! It's located on the end of an otherwise nondescript 1980s small strip shopping center in Rock Hill SC, but if you come in, you'll leave happy.

Slow smoked Carolina BBQ done right in small batches at the Dixie Pig -- OINK!!

We are Texans who have heard about the wonders of Carolina BBQ. While we are not converted from our love of slow-smoked Texas beef brisket, we find plenty of room in our hearts for Carolina pulled pork and those vinegary sauces. YUM!!!!!

Our pork was tender and juicy, pulled into shreds with lovely bits of crispy pork skin well distributed throughout. We asked to try all the sauces, for a real Carolina Pig Out!! (oo)

All sauces are handmade in house in small batches. You can taste the skill and pride in these sauces, which beautifully complemented the pork without overpowering it. The house sauce and the East Carolina mustard sauce were my faves, but my dining partner preferred the traditional sweet BBQ sauce.

We had stopped a guy leaving with an armful of carry-out, so we asked him what we should get here. He recommended the pulled pork (of course) and said don't miss the mac and cheese and the collard greens with black eyed peas -- so we didn't. We are GRATEFUL for that tip :)

I love collard greens anyway, but it never occurred to me to mix them with black eyed peas! I have seen the light and I will do this from now on.

Mac and cheese are homestyle, baked just like grandma's, with lots of cheese and black pepper. Just delicious!
