On this baptismal font, in Trinity United Reformed Church, is an inscription attributed to the Roman Emperor Tiberias.
The inscription is dedicated to the memory of Llewllyn McWahannell the treasurer of the Church for 47 years. The words attributed to Tiberias are shown below:
'VIVIT POST FUNERA VIRTUS'
This can be translated from the Vulgate as 'virtue lives on after the grave'.
The full inscription is shown below:
'IN MEMORY OF
LLEWLLYN McWHANNELL
TREASURER
OF THIS CHURCH
FOR 47 YEARS
VIVIT POST FUNERA VIRTUS
ERECTED AUG 29TH
1888.'
The baptismal font was erected in 1888 a few years after the construction of the present church and so Llewllyn must have been Treasurer at the former church. (
