Yellowstone National Cemetery is in Yellowstone County, Montana just north of Laurel. Up until 2008, this was known as Veterans Cemetery. Since its designation, November 11, 2008, it is the only "National" Veteran Cemetery in Montana. There are an additional four state cemeteries, however these are managed by the State of Montana. The property for the Veterans Cemetery was originally owned by Dr. R. J. and Dorothy Rosselot, their sons: Robert P., James E. Charles H. and William F. Rosselot, the property was generously donated for use as a National Veterans Cemetery.
Expansion and improvements to the cemetery are already completed, including new columbariums, a Memorial Garden and Walkway and an Avenue of Flags. Though the cemetery was originally 10.5 acres in size, it was expanded which is most likely closer to 20 acres.
This is a most impressive cemetery, row on row of white traditional veteran headstones, they stand witness to wars fought on foreign soil, blood spilled, battered and wounded, they are placed here to be honored for their sacrifices, may they rest in peace.
There are currently 930 known interments the first were in 1977.
