A plaque on the fountain's base reads:
"The Springfield Improvement
Association and Woman's Club Inc.
Founded May 4, 1904
In 1910 the Association erected this marble and bronze fountain in memory of their founder Mrs. Benjamin F. (Mary) Dillon. This magnificent work was done by the renowned sculptor C. Adrian Pillars, after a fountain found in the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence, Italy. The Association had this memorial lovingly rebuilt in 2006.
