The station is located in the extreme south-west of the department of Vienne, at the limit of the departments of Deux-Sèvres and Charente. It is about 3.5 km from the center of Saint-Saviol.
The station was opened on July 28, 1853. The station was the origin of a line of secondary railway with metric track of the CFD Network of Charentes and Deux-Sèvres which connected it to the station of Saint-Jean-d ' Angély from 1896 to 1950.
Locally, the station is commonly called Station Civray-des-Champs, the station of the nearby Civray called "Civray-Ville Station" ".

La gare a été ouverte le 28 juillet 1853. La gare était l'origine d'une ligne de chemin de fer secondaire à voie métrique des CFD Réseau des Charentes et Deux-Sèvres qui la reliait à la gare de Saint-Jean-d'Angély de 1896 à 1950.
Localement, la gare est communément appelée Gare de Civray-des-Champs, la gare de la commune voisine Civray s'appelant « Gare de Civray-Ville »".
