The plaque says, "Water rising to the surface along a portion of the Pinto Mountain Fall has allowed the formation of the Oasis of Mara. The oasis is home to plants and animals who lives depend on the presence of water at or near the surface.
For hundreds of years Native Americans used the oasis as a camp and trading spot. Water attached miners and ranchers to the oasis in the late 1800s. Over the years water levels have varied with earthquake activity.
A walk around this 1/2-mile (.8 km) trail will introduce you to the natural and cultural history of the oasis as well as the management of this unique resource."
