In this place, now known as Plaza Cuartel (Barracks Square), 150 US Americans POW were burnt to death by their Japanese captors on the 14th December 1944. Some of the victims survived and swam to freedom. The remains of those who perish were buried in a common grave at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, in 1952.

Nowadays the place is a public park, where locals go to socialize. The gate still resembles its original purpose, from the time when the place was a military barracks and there are a few informative boards explaining the role of Palawan island in the War, as well as the events which took place here.
